Bulk fuel filters clean fuel as it is transferred, before it reaches a machine's own tank. Filtering at the point of dispensing is worthwhile because storage tanks accumulate water from condensation, along with rust and debris that settles and then gets disturbed by every delivery or refuelling. Catching that at the pump keeps it out of every machine on site.

These elements handle higher flow rates than an on-engine filter and are usually selected around the dispensing equipment rather than the engine.
